Difference Between An Affiliate & Super Affiliate

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's Super Affiliate! Corny, but "super affiliate" is the new buzzword for affiliates who are both ambitious and successful at affiliate marketing. There are wild claims online about affiliate marketing: Make Millions Overnight! Never Work Again! Unfortunately, these claims are usually false. To go from being a plain affiliate to super affiliate takes a lot of work. In short, you need to be an affiliate of steel.

The vast majority of affiliate marketing sites online are run by people who have no great interest in turning a huge profit. For example, you'll find thousands of blogs where people put up a few Amazon listings and/or Google links on the off chance that a passing browser will click on them. That's all well and good, but this is no way to make a dent in the affiliate marketing game. To be a super affiliate, you need to treat affiliate marketing as a job, not just something that you do on the side to put a couple of bucks in your pocket.

There is a misconception that affiliate marketing is not a real business. After all, the affiliate is not putting out a product. This is patently false. Even though an affiliate marketer is not manufacturing a product, he or she is still offering the product up for sale. An affiliate marketer still needs to be in charge of search engine optimization, custom content, quality web design, financial management, and everything else that goes into running a successful e-business. As with any business, an affiliate marketing plan is only as strong as the amount of work you put into it.

A super affiliate will be able to turn as hefty a profit as a standard business—several sales a day on a number of different fronts. Remember, successful affiliate marketers don't necessarily stop at one site. They set up a variety of affiliate sites with a good web address, quality web design, and lucrative affiliate marketing opportunities. Additionally, once you start selling at an accelerated rate, some affiliate programs will promote you from regular affiliate to super affiliate. If you start sending sales and traffic to a business, they will reward you with better terms.
This isn't an easy proposition, but it is possible. Make sure that an affiliate program has a corresponding super affiliate program in place—better terms for more sales. Even if they don't, an affiliate with good terms up front can really pay off if you're able to make a several sales a month.

Affiliate programs with great terms are also sometimes referred to as super affiliates. Find these and you know you'll have a good marketing in place at the start.

Lesson - [1] Your Business Idea?

Online Money & Affiliate AcadamyRight, lets take a look at our first online business.

The first thing that I would recommend is getting hold of an 'ideas' book. I have been scribbling ideas in notebooks for the past 5 years and I 'know' the value in writing your ideas down. I have recently used these books to bring to life many projects that I have been 'thinking' about for many years!

If you don't write these ideas and thoughts down, you probably won't be able to recall them in the future. (personally, I can't even remember what I did yesterday!)

Once you have your book, take a pen or pencil and write down your 'ideas for your business' I am sure that you will have had many before but now is the time to commit them to paper. If you are not sure, why not make a list of your hobbies or your favorite sports etc.

I would recommend that you start with something that 'means' something to you. Possibly something that you are good at or really passionate about! These will 'always' make great business's because you already have the 'passion' for it! Passion = Productivity (which will ultimately result in another P - PROFIT!)

Don't be worried about 'how' you are going to make money from it just yet, we will cover this soon!

A few good examples:- Let's say you are really interested in a sport - Golf for example! Now becoming a Professional Golfer will take many years of dedication usually from a very young age! Whilst becoming a golf pro is one way of making money from golf, it isn't really an option for most of us..... But if you are passionate about golf, why not turn it into an online business! You could set up a website selling golf clubs! Whilst there are many of these already, you could 'carve out' a niche by maybe focusing your efforts on a particular 'brand' or a particular 'price range' or specializing in Ladies golf or Junior golf etc. 'Yes but wouldn't I have to buy the stock and store it before shipping to my customers?' I hear you ask? NO. There are many companies that offer an 'affiliate partnership' program who will do this for you. All you need is a sale through a personalized link and they will process the order, ship the goods to your customer and pay you a commission! [Affiliate Schemes] but don't worry about all that for now. Just write your ideas down!

Rather than selling 'Golf clubs' what about selling 'information!' What about keeping a diary about all your golfing experiences, the best places to play, the cheapest shops, the best golf balls, the best golfers, where to buy Championship tickets, 'how to' reduce your handicap, better putting, straighter driving, golfing holidays, specialist golfing equipment etc, etc, etc. Hopefully you get the point. Try to carve out a 'niche' part of the overall market.

Whatever 'idea' you come up with which is 'personal' to you should be written down and dissected. Remember, these are 'your' ideas so if they are a little crazy, it doesn't matter! No one else will see them and often the 'best' business ideas come out the craziest thought patterns so give it a go!

Once you have your ideas (and don't limit yourself to just one) It is time to find out how you can turn your ideas into an online business...... [Please read lesson 2]

Lesson - [2] Setting up your Online Business Website/Blog

So you now have a few business ideas?

How do you now go about making money from them online?

Well one of the things you need to decide is how you are going to actually make the money. What I mean is, are you going to 'sell' a product, a service, a membership subscription or are you going to make money from selling advertising or indeed a combination of all!

First things first - You will need a name for your online business.

STOP! - Be Careful! Speed reading this part could cost you a lot of missed sales! I would recommend that you read ALL of our lessons BEFORE actually taking any action! You can always revisit each one once you know how it all fits together!

So, what is in a name? - Well lot's actually. You need to make sure that your name relates to your product or service and contains your most targeted 'keywords' - WHY? because you want your site to be as high up the search engine listings when somebody enters these keywords. Whilst search engines use many criteria to decide ranking, one of the most important relevance and your website/blog name suggests relevance! So, using the example of our Golf site, a good name may be www.bestukgolfcourses.com/ if your desired keywords are 'Best' 'UK' 'Golf' 'Courses' or what about www.cheapjuniorgolfclubs.com/ etc. But don't go overboard. Too many keywords can make your site name look ugly and clumsy.

So how do you find out if your name has already been taken? Easy, type it into your internet browser. I would also suggest that you type your name (as keywords ''Best' 'UK' 'Golf' 'Courses' etc) into Google and click 'search' this will not only show up similar names but can also provide you with an idication of your competition and a great insight into what they are selling!

To see if your desired name (lets call it your Domain Name) is available, visit one of these Domain registration companies :- Go Daddy (USA) or 123-Reg (UK) and perform a search. They will also let you know how much it will cost to buy your name and how long for etc.

WARNING - Please read this BEFORE you spend any money! You do not have to buy a Domain to get your site up and running! Later, I will be explaining how to set up your site and there are options. If you opt for a FREE Blog site, you can simply select a name within the free blogs URL (ie http://www.bestgolfcourses.blogspot.com/) or if you subscribe to some of the many website design/hosting packages, you may be offered a FREE Domain name as part of the subscription. Please read on before you decide. I would ALWAYS recommend that you buy a Domain because it suggests professionalism and longevity.

Is your domain name available? Check it out here:-
Go Daddy $7.49 .com domains 468x60

Domain Names and Web Hosting from 123-reg!

(You can also get a free domain if you are going to set up a website with Do Your Own Site)

Right, so hopefully by now you have your business name, your Domain and plenty of keywords to use.

Now all you need to do is actually set up your site. Which type of website is best for you and your business. If you are setting up an online shop in order to sell products, make sure you choose a website facility and hosting which offers this facility. If you have access to website creating software like WebPlusx2 from Amazon you will simply need a good hosting package like Fasthost (UK) or GoDaddy (USA).

Hosting 468x60 animated gif

GoDaddy.com Hosting & Servers 468x60

If you have no or very limited HTML & PHP programming language experience, then go for a DIY package (Do Your Own Site). If you don't need a shop facility, why not consider using a blog site (like this one). A blog site acts very much like a normal website if you set it up like one, with the added advantage that search engines focus on 'good quality information' rather than online shops and websites with little content. So they seem to prefer blogs and can rank them quite highly in the search engine results, so a blog site could be the right vehicle for your online business - oh, and by the way, many of them are absolutely FREE to set up! Bonus!

Why not take a look at Wordpress or follow our lead by using Blogger from Google. No programming experience is required and a great professional site can be up and running in a matter of minutes.

So now you have your idea, your keywords, your site name and Domain and hopefully the right site for your business. Next we look at content, revenue streams and marketing......

Lesson - [3] Adding quality content and revenue streams

Right, by now you should have your idea, your website or blog and your keyword rich Domain name.

All you need now is quality content, revenue streams and marketing!

As far as good quality content is concerned, if you have followed my advice in lesson 1 and decided on a business idea that you are passionate about, I am sure that you will already have access to lots of good content of your own. If you don't, then don't worry because the internet is full of superb content that you can use. If you are using affiliate products and services on your site as part of your revenue streams, then producing a 'feature' of the product or service is a great way of producing useful, quality and original content as well as being a great recommendation of the product or service which should result in affiliate sales and commission!

WARNING! Do not be tempted to simply copy and paste other websites' content into your site! This is not only illegal, but it won't do you any favors with the search engines because one of their pet hates is 'duplicated content' - so don't do it. You can however, 'borrow' useful content from different sources and re-write it completely. I personally wouldn't recommend content 'spinners' (software that re-writes articles and content by changing selected words) because I believe this to be sailing a bit 'close to the wind'. You owe it to your readers to give them original quality content, not just a spun article. Add your opinions and views and your own personal thoughts about the subject and intersperse the article with useful links to other related articles and/or affiliate links. Keeping the reader interested and provide them a place to obtain further information or to to buy a related product or service is providing a good service. Remember, that if you direct your reader away from your site, they may never come back - so whenever possible set your links to open in a new window (target='blank_' is the HTML code to do this) so that your site is still present.

*****************************************
STOP! Just for a minute, it is now time for you to complete two very important steps!
Please now join ALL of the affiliate networks and programs! Once your site is set up with some basic content, make sure you visit our Affiliate Network page and sign up with each of the different networks by clicking on each link. This will allow you to maximise the affiliate products and services you can add to your site.

Please now also join our TEAM!
Remember I said that we wanted you to be in our TEAM? Well, you haven't actually joined yet, if you would like to be kept up to date with all our updates, FREE marketing ideas and new FREE money making opportunities, please click here and join our FREE Exclusive Affiliate Social Network by invitation only. You will be able to exchange views with other members and we will be able to keep you up to date with all the latest news, free to join programs and top marketing ideas etc.

*****************************************
Now that you have joined ALL the affiliate networks (and we will let you know of any new ones that we find) it is time to look at another revenue stream - advertising! If kept relevant, useful and non intrusive, advertising can be another superb way of offering a great service to your readers and generating a source of revenue. Contextual advertising (like Google's AdSense as seen on this site) works really well as it keeps the adverts relevant. The software scans your webpage and picks out keywords and places adverts automatically in the space you have selected. You can control the size of the ad box and the colour scheme. You can even select advertisers that you wish not to show and you can select between text only ads or picture based ads. because it is run by Google, it is reliable and trust worthly, but beware! You cannot alter the advert code in any way which means that you cannot set any links to open in a new window. This means that you will be directing traffic away from your site. Google has very strict Terms and Conditions which they can change at any time and without any warning. If you inadvertently click one of your own ads or place an ad on a website that Google doesn't like, you will be Terminated from their program, again without warning and this decision is final. So please be careful. However, Google can generate a superb revenue stream.

Alternatives to Google includes Bidvertiser and some affiliate networks including TradeDoubler offer contextual advertising for placement on your site, so you decide on which is best for you. They are all FREE to join and to use.

So, to recap... You now have your idea, your site, your Domain, your content and 2 revenue streams - Affiliate links and Contextual advertising.

Sign up for PayPal and start accepting credit card payments instantly.

Finally, if your chosen website creation software and hosting is sophisticated enough to have a secure, password protected section, you can offer a membership revenue stream to you online business. By requiring your users to register their details in order to access protected quality content, you can simply add a paid subscription membership fee for this service. You will need to set up an online billing and credit card processing facility like PayPal, WorldPay and AlertPay. These services charge a small percentage of any credit card transaction that they process on your behalf. A monthly subscription paid by credit card can generate a large monthly revenue stream providing your content is up to paying for it.

Thanks for reading. Next lesson is all about marketing your website and getting the all important traffic.

Lesson [4] - Marketing your site to get traffic

Ok, so that is your Website or Blog set up with a good name, good content and great revenue streams, but there is one very important stage to go!

'If you build it they will come' just doesn't work online! You will need to promote your website!

You could have the best Website or Blog in the World but if nobody can find it, then you will have no visitors and no visitors = NO MONEY!

But don't panic, there are many ways to promote your site. Some are FREE and some you have to pay for. I have devised a Marketing System which I have nicknamed 'The Marketing Solar System'.

I have called it a Solar System because just like a planetary solar system, we have many items revolving around one central point with each having an effect on the other. Whilst these are planets revolving around the sun in a planetary system, in my marketing system it is different marketing methods revolving around a Website/Blog.

It doesn't make any sense to rely on just one source of traffic. That would be the equivalent of placing one advert in the local press and hoping that your brand new International shop will be full of customers every day! It just doesn't happen. What you need to do is build 'Multiple Sources of Traffic' that drive visitors to your site.

So where does this traffic come from?

Warning! Before we answer that question, we need to set up our site traffic monitoring systems so that we can see exactly where our traffic is coming from. This will allow you to focus on the traffic source that is the most productive.

There are many traffic monitoring applications on the market, but I would recommend that you use a FREE one from ..... Yes, you've guessed it, Google. Google Analytics is a great piece of software. After you have registered free, you will be asked to enter you website domain and a few other details. Google will then generate you a small piece of HTML code that you copy and paste into your site HTML and as soon as you publish your site, Google Analytics will start to track your traffic. The statistics include, visitor numbers, location, unique visitors and returning visitors, keywords used to find your site, where they have been referred from and even how long they stayed on your site! Take some time to discover all of the features and get to understand the results.

Whilst you are using your free Google account, it would be useful to add another FREE Google tool,
Google's Webmaster Tools. This will allow you to add a site map and see information about your individual web pages including if they have been included in Google's listings, when your site was last crawled by Google, how many of your pages are listed, identified keywords etc, etc.

Lets start to generate some traffic! Firstly you should submit your website/blog address to the main search engines. This is slightly controversial as some people believe that you should allow the search engines to find you, but I don't see why you should have to wait. I would recommend that you use a FREE Search Engine submission service such as
Submit Express. This is simply letting the search engines know that a new website is available for searching. This can take a long time before your site is included so you will just have to be patient.

Next, try submitting your site to online Directories. Start with
DMOZ which is a open Directory and also submit to as many other FREE Directories as you can find. Do a search for 'FREE DIRECTORIES' on Google. Again this can be very time consuming but it is necessary for the long term popularity of your site.

If you are looking for some fast website traffic, you could try Classified Adverts.

I personally like these Classified advert sites :-
VivaStreet, Gumtree, Craigs List & BestWayClassifieds. You will need to register for your FREE account but after your account has been activated, Write a short, appealing advert and include a link to the relevant page of your website/blog. These sites have a large number of visitors and a well written advert can have loads of FREE traffic visiting your site within minutes of your ad being added.

Free Classifieds in the UK

Buy & Sell

WARNING - Remember that each page of your website is like a mini website. Treat it as a separate site, link directly to it rather than your home page.

Social Networking (or Web 2.0 as it is often referred to) can also have instant traffic flowing to your site. Make sure that you set up a
Twitter account (follow us on Twitter here once your account is set up) and I would recommend that you feed your twitter account via an automated feeding site like Friend Feed. You should also add you site/blog RSS feed to Friend Feed so that every time you publish anything new on your site it will automatically be added to twitter and any other Web 2.0 sites you choose to use automatically. Facebook, Yuwie, Linked in, MySpace, Bebo, etc

Social Bookmarking - I would also recommend that you add any new pages or articles to social bookmarking sites like Stumble upon, Mixx, Propeller etc as these are not only visited my millions of people all around the world, they are also crawled often by the search engines and bookmarks added to these sites is another link back to yours.

Pay per Click - It can be argued that the fastest way of generating targeted traffic is by using Pay Per Click or PPC as it is known. Once again, Google is king! Google offers PPC advertising via Google Adwords. This is not FREE but can provide good value fast traffic to your site and may be worth considering. There are many other PPC alternatives like NetKlix (UK) and Bidvertiser (USA). Simply write a short advert, set the amount you are prepared to pay per click and your maximum daily or monthly spend and thats it! You will be able to log into your account 24/7 to see how many clicks have been generated and if you cross reference this with your site Analytics stats you will be able to confirm how much traffic has been generated and, more importantly, calculate your cost per sale ratio.

Articles - Another great way of generating free traffic is writing and submitting articles to blogs and blog carnivals and leaving constructive comments on other peoples blogs and forums. This way you can get a short message across whilst you also get a one way backlink to your site.

Traffic Exchanges - WARNING! If you are using Google Adsense do not use Traffic Exchanges! they break Google's Terms & Conditions! Traffic Exchanges can be a good source of traffic but they can also be a waste of time and effort. Basically they allow their members (normally FREE to join) to add a number of sites that they are looking to promote. These sites are added to an exclusive site rotation system. Members then surf the rotation system viewing each site for a period of time (usually between 5 and 20 seconds) in return for earning a credit. These credits are exchanged for a site view by another member. hence the name 'Traffic Exchange' You will view other members sites and they will view yours. There are usually two methods of surfing on traffic Exchanges, manually and Auto-surfing. Personally I wouldn't recommend using auto-surfing as you are not trying to generate 'hits' you are trying to generate real visitors to your site. Auto-surfing can be completed even when the surfer is not in front of their pc! on the other hand, manual surfing can only be completed by the user actually viewing each site, waiting for a timer to time out and then manually clicking to move onto the next site. A much better chance of a surfer wanting to click on your site and stay a little longer. These are my favorite Traffic Exchanges:- EasyHits4U, TrafficSplash, HitsBoosterPro, Hit2Hit, Terran Innerspace, ClickCrazey, ILoveHits, Dragon Surf & ts25

Long term Search Engine Optimization (SEO) - We have covered SEO in details elsewhere on this site as it can be quite complex but it is crucial for the long term popularity of your site. Part of a good SEO strategy would include quality freash content, a good use of keywords on relevant pages, as many relevant inbound links as possible, a site map and an up to date site or blog.

If you follow these basic guidelines and keep your site updated with fresh well written content interspersed with relevant keywords and affiliate links and surrounded by unobtrusive advertising, you should be able to drive organic and targeted traffic to your site gradually building month on month.

Thank you for reading these lessons and I hope that you develop a great site or blog. If you need any further help, simply email me and I will see what I can do to help. Please also let me know how this information has helped you develop your site and I will add your testimonial to my site with a one way link to yours.

All the very best and enjoy the rest of this site.

Resource - Affiliate Schemes (what are they & how do they work)

Affiliate Schemes.

I am sure that even the newest online newcomer (or newbie as often referred to) will have heard the term 'affiliate' but what does it mean, how does they work, where can you get one and are they right for me?

Well it is all very easy. Lets take an International Company as an example - we will use the International Airline Virgin Atlantic.
(affiliate scheme available through AffiliateFuture) Now as part of Virgin Atlantic's massive marketing strategy, and in addition to the traditional advertising methods of newspaper, poster, magazine & TV etc, they have also introduced an 'affiliate' program. This program offers any webmaster (a person who controls the content of any website or blog - usually the owner) the opportunity of advertising Virgin Atlantic to their website users in return for a commission on any sales generated from this traffic.

Why would they do this? Well rather that Virgin buying advertising space in 'advance' of any sale, which is the traditional method, through their affiliate program they can advertise their products and services across thousands of websites and blogs and only pay commission 'after' a sale has been generated by the advertising. This makes a MASSIVE difference to their 'Return on Investment' (ROI).

Whilst we have used Virgin Atlantic as an example, there are literally thousands of online retailers and service providers out there offering affiliate schemes, programs or partnerships.

Most online retailers or service providers (often referred to as Merchants or Advertisers) will offer their affiliate scheme through one of the growing number of affiliate networks (see a list below). This is great for webmasters because rather than having to hunt for these affiliate schemes, webmasters can simply join the affiliate networks and 'choose' their preferred merchant to advertise.

Affiliate commission will vary subject to the product or services being promoted, but they are usually quite attractive. Some Merchants will pay for a one off sale, some will pay on repeat business and some will even pay just for the click.

So how do affiliate schemes actually work? - Easy, once you have signed up to advertise a Merchant, you will usually be offered different 'methods' of promoting or advertising them. These usually consist of a range of Banners & Text Links. Some merchants may include a product feed or a featured 'widget' that you could use, but we will cover these another day. Lets keep things simple for now. A typical banner would look like this:-

You will be offered a section of code to paste into your website or blog. Don't worry if this code looks complicated, as long as you copy fully and paste it into your website, it will look like the banner above!

Once you have uploaded these, any of your traffic (your website or blog readers) that click on the banner or link and purchases a product from your merchant, will generate you a commission!

Without getting too detailed...your code will contain a unique 'tracking' URL or website address which lets the merchant know where the sale has come from and who to pay the commission too. It is vitally important that you do not attempt to change or alter this code! You will probably be breaking the terms and Conditions of the Affiliate program also if you do which could result in your Termination from the program.

You really will be amazed how many affiliate schemes & programs are available.

So, if you are a Webmaster (or would like to become one [Do Your Own Site]) and would like to generate commission from affiliate programs, why not join some of the major affiliate networks listed here:-

They are ALL FREE to join but with some you will need a website or blog in order to sign up. [Do Your Own Site]
